Making Traditional Chinese Medicine easier to access
Interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is growing in Europe, but access for patients is fragmented. Verified practitioners are hard to find, and TCM diagnostics are difficult for laypeople to understand. At the same time, TCM clinics lack professional digital tools to gain visibility and organise inquiries. The project explores a digital platform that serves both sides.
Project Highlight
Challenge
How do you make TCM approachable and trustworthy for newcomers without presenting it as medical diagnosis? The platform had to translate complex traditional content into a modern, clear interface, guide users from curiosity to action, and work for two groups: patients and clinics.
Solution
I designed a guidance and referral platform in two parts. AI self-assessment: users photograph their tongue and receive a structured, easy-to-read TCM report with dietary and lifestyle suggestions based on the Five Elements theory. Expert marketplace: users filter verified practitioners by location, specialty and treatment focus, view profiles and book online or in-person appointments. The UX principles were trust (clearly guidance, not diagnosis), a clean health-tech look for traditional content, and a seamless flow from self-assessment to booking.
Outcome
The project is at concept stage. I created the core user flows and UI screens (home, self-assessment, practitioner search and booking) and a partner pitch deck covering problem, solution, market and value proposition for users, clinics and investors. The next phase looks for developers, financial partners and TCM practitioners for validation.
